not a total saint

Oct 19

Dear Ms. Wheeler,

Good afternoon!

Thank you so much for taking our class from Longy through your experience at Lost Pond.

The pandemic has been very odd for me. I moved to Boston just a few months before everything shut down and I rented a room in house in Concord from an elderly couple. As the pandemic wore on, the gentleman from whom I rented grew very ill and it became clear he was going to pass on in the next year. He had only wish: to die in his own bed. They had the means to hire outside aids, but due to concerns with the virus the family was hesitant to do so. Sometimes the universe puts people in places they never expected but basically I became his hospice nurse.

I’m not a total saint, I was compensated well for doing so, but I watched as his world got smaller, never going outside again, never leaving the second floor, two rooms to one room. It was a wild experience and I still can’t put into words how it made me feel.

Before we took our walk I received a notification from his obituary page saying that it was his birthday, his first since he passed in October of 2020. I didn’t realize I needed your walk but it brought me an incredible amount of closure. Thank you so much for being so vulnerable and I’m sending good wishes to you and your family.

All the best,

Tyler
